Went on a walkabout today...

And wound up with some lovely pictures of the garden and the yard. It was very wet and rainy today, though oddly enough, sunny at the same time. I couldn't help but sing "Have You Ever Seen The Rain" under my breath the entire time as Broom was frolicking about in the grass. Hell, I wound up having to put on all my rain gear and dig out the umbrella I picked up in Madrid, it was that rainy.
The greenhouse sits at the east end of the garden, and contains tomatoes, which we have to plant again every year, and lettuce, which I planted about seven years ago and apparently hasn't stopped growing since. It's kind of awesome that way. When we renovated the house, we ended up with a lot of old windows that we didn't need anymore, and figured instead of throwing them out, we'd recycle them into a greenhouse. It's worked out amazingly well, and does a damn good job with the tomatoes, since we wouldn't have a chance in hell of growing them otherwise. It's just too damn cold here.
Planting this garden every year is a long and thankless task, and only pays off some of the time. Broom seems to enjoy galloping through it, though, which is apparently supposed to make it all better? I dunno, I just work here. We do usually get great potatoes, though, which is a nice bonus. They're easy to plant, weed and harvest, and the deer don't eat them. Ever. They make up for this by decimating the beans, peas and carrots, which is why having a dog might actually be nice for once. It's more than frustrating to work on the garden, and then have 75% of it eaten by something other than yourself.
Anyway. The view from the backyard is always nice, and it was particularly pretty today, what with the light rain and all the green finally starting to show. (It's almost June, and we're just now starting to get green, growing things? Yeesh.) There's really something amazing about being able to look out over the valley, all the way to the mountains. It's always different, and hey, can't complain about waking up to the Rockies every morning.
Oh, you can see here both how crowded that area of the lawn is, and how big Broom's doghouse actually is. It's a good thing it's so sturdy, though. Anything smaller, and he'd just drag it all around the lawn.
Ooh! Before I sign off, I got new ear cuffs today! They were cheap, and are very pretty. ...And I just noticed. Freckles inside my ear? Really? Wow.

Date: 2009-05-26 04:17 pm (UTC)That is indeed a gorgeous view - I think I'm jealous. And I like your earcuffs very much, particularly that last one. Where'd you find 'em? That place you linked me to, or somewhere local-er?

Date: 2009-05-26 05:06 pm (UTC)One of these days I'll get up on the roof and get a picture or two of the mountains from up there. That's an amazing view.
Thanks! I found 'em here (http://www.jewelgallery.net/), in the first section of ear cuffs. (Can't remember if I linked you there or not.) It's not exactly local, but it worked out.
